This video demonstrates little things that can make a big difference in enhancing your singing skill-set as a vocalist. It is so easy to let what you might think to be small techniques fall by the wayside. It is easier to focus on the music, isn’t it?

But when you are having trouble with performing the music and making the music seem easy, it is time to find a way to maintain and improve your skills. You must begin doing these things every day in order to improve as a singer.

Ways to become a better vocalist every day?. They are very important to not only your singing health but also to your growing ability.

how to be a good vocalist without lessons

These techniques are ones I go over in the video, but I will also break them down for you here.

  • Stretch-for at least 5 minutes
    • You must be physically ready for singing.
    • Make sure your tongue is loose.
    • Your throat and upper body are relaxed and worked out and ready for singing.
    • Since your vocal chords are a muscle, you don’t want to risk hurting or straining them.
    • Stretching your neck around gently it is an excellent way to keep your vocal cords in tune.
  • Lip Trills-help increase breath flow and beautiful phrasing
    • Or a similar exercise to practice keeping your breath moving with phrases.
    • You can use just a sound instead of trills, but the trills are nice to keep your breath moving.
    • You will know if your breath is not very deep when you lips stop buzzing.
    • Breath control and awareness of your breathing and connecting your breath to your vocal phrase are so important while singing.
    • Another example: Ah-eh-ee-oh-oo
  • Practice breathing right-It will make everything else easier
    • Expand your mid-section, feel it all the way around,
    • Your chest should not rise, nor your shoulders.
    • It should feel like a natural breath, only deeper and with the specific purpose of singing.
    • Examples given: “Airing up a tire” or “Baking the donut”
  • Posture-a good foundation is key
    • it should be upright and relaxed.
    • If you notice you are slouching, take a few minutes, lift your sternum or breastbone, and let everything else fall into place.
    • gently roll your shoulders back to create an open chest.
    • feet should be shoulder-width apart and one foot slightly ahead of the other
    • tuck your hips in if you feel like they are swaying or leaning towards the front or the back
  • Range-you should always want to improve and have more ease in your voice
    • work your way up to the high notes and down to the low notes.
    • Don’t expect to be able to reach them as soon as you start warming up vocally.
    • Always be striving to get better in your range so you are able to sing more types of songs and be able to increase your skills.
    • Examples: ba, ba, ba three-step pattern.1-2-3-2-1
    • Scales are also amazing for this, but go slow and make them supported.
