the psalms are fascinating…
have you ever really thought about it?
I have a question….
DO YOU CONSISTENTLY SING THE PSALMS WITH PURPOSE?
If we counted the number of times we showed up to Mass with the Psalm prepared, it would probably be on one hand.
I mean truly prepared. Knowing notes and rhythms are one thing, singing the Psalm with spirituality and insight is another.
The Psalms are like poetry: beautiful promises and musings from the heart of David, a true servant of God.
WORDS THAT ARE MEANT TO UPLIFT, ENCOURAGE AND INSPIRE. WORDS FROM GOD HIMSELF.
Don’t we want to convey that to the congregation?
I believe that singing is praying twice. I also believe that using music to minister to people is a very serious and humbling service.
HOW CAN WE BE SERVANTS TO OTHERS WITH OUR MUSICAL TALENTS?
If you are fortunate enough to serve as a cantor in your church, please consider a few of these tips:
-Have the Psalm musically prepared ahead of time
-Give thought to how you are going to sing the words
-Ponder the Scriptures and context in which the words are coming from
-Review and practice how you are going to sing the Psalm during Mass
THESE can be SIMPLE STEPS.
