Facebook has definitely been promoting their groups lately to get people to join groups. There are so many Facebook groups out there, from sports-related to arts to mamas to whatever, but have you ever seen a list for Catholic musicians?

I have searched for those that would pertain best to cantors, choir directors, and just general Catholic music groups that would be helpful for you.
You could use these groups for fellowship, to ask questions of fellow Catholic ministers, and also to share what you have to offer (depending on the group rules, of course).

Best Facebook Groups for Catholic Music Ministers
Cantor Facebook Groups
Catholic Cantor Connection – this is a great place to interact with other cantors, offer your services on the East Coast, or share your favorite music and photos. The admin did retire, but the group is still active!

Becoming the Best Catholic Cantor We Can Be – this group is by me, and while it is small, I would love some more members to help encourage each other in the ministry of cantoring and share tips and resources for everyone who cantors! I also share my latest posts.

Catholic Music Directors– in this group you can share and post recordings, pictures, or other things that are inspiring and helpful to other music directors.

Catholic Music Directors – Yes, there are more than one! This group is limited to Catholic musicians and those employees of parishes who support the music ministry. From the group description: “It is a place to discuss programming and management and to give and receive support and exchange ideas with colleagues.”

I’m a Church Choir Director And/Or Organist – group for any type of music director, organist, worship leader, etc, to share ideas, questions, and useful resources. The members are from all faiths, including some non-Christian. This would be an interesting group to be in to learn from across all denominations from all over the world.

NPM Choir Director Section – their description: “The National Association of Pastoral Musicians Interest Section for Choir Directors represents one of the largest groups of musicians in the NPM family. I’m fed up with bad church music – this may not be the most helpful or eloquent group out there, but it will give you a chance to revel with others about the beauty of chant music or talk about your pet peeves of what you don’t like about church music. They are on a crusade to stamp out bad church music.

Tips for Using Facebook Groups
I have been a part of many Facebook groups in my time on Facebook, of many different types. Let me share with you some of my top tips for actually engaging with your Facebook groups.
- Only join groups that are highly interesting to you; if you join a bunch, you tend to get disinterested quickly.
- If you are asked questions to join, answer as honestly as you can.
- Ask questions to learn, share resources to help, and give good feedback for those asking for advice or help.
- Peruse the group about once a week for new information or opportunities, or less if you don’t have time to do that.
- Pin your most used groups to the top of your shortcuts menu on your Facebook for quick and easy access.
- Find a post that you would love to read but don’t have the time right away? Save the post for later to read when you have time.
